American (larger 2.8mm wishbones) will be for American style spears where the shaft has extruded shark fins to secure the wishbone. Open loop (smaller diameter wishbones) will be for closed mussel spearguns, where you need to tie the band together after it is pulled through the speargun muzzle.

Sizing and loading

Use the band sizing chart below to ensure you choose the correct band size. If you have your old bands, that need replacement, simple measure the bands total length (excluding wishbone) and select the appropriate band. Band length affects how much the rubber stretches during loading. For a given speargun setup, a band that is too short increases loading effort, while excessive length reduces the energy transferred during firing. Band diameter also influences stored energy and loading force, so both dimensions should be matched to the intended speargun setup.

Care and replacement

Keep the bands away from prolonged sunlight and high temperatures during storage and transport. Sticky or gummy rubber and cracking, particularly near the wishbone or muzzle, are signs that a band is deteriorating and should be inspected for replacement.

Neptonics
Open Loop /
